World Championship successes!

Congratulations to everyone who rowed at the 24th World Pilot Gig Championships

Swanage Sea Rowing Club gave another solid performance this year with our stalwart Mens Supervets getting a 4th in their race with Gary Philips going from one end of the gig to the other to stroke the crew to a very creditable best-ever place. The Ladies came a splendid 6th in their Vets race. The Ladies A suffered from an illness and were just beaten by the ladies B in a dramatic final. The results were as follows - thanks to Ben Banks -  Mens A - 2012 67th, 2013 33rd - up 34 places. Mens B - 2012 89th, 2013 64th - up 25 places. Mens C - 2012 98th, 2013 113th - down 15 places. Ladies A - 2012 19th, 2013 27th - down 8 places. Ladies B - 2012 35th, 2013 26th - up 9 places. Ladies C - 2012 98th, 2013 80th - up 18 places. Ladies Vets - 2013 6th. Mens Super Vets - 2012 5th, 2013 4th.

NAMING OUR NEW GIG CEREMONY MONDAY 27TH MAY

Come and join the celebrations with Swanage Sea Rowing Club at the naming of the new training gig on Monday 27th May at the site of the new Boathouse. George Wallace has been collecting the names and refusing to divulge the winner - so you will have to come and enjoy the barbeque and festivities at 12 o'clock to find out the winner. She has been built to take a full rig and we look forward to sailing in the Bay in the future.

 Ceramic Art

Tim Altham from Eureka has arranged to have colour ceramic tiles of the three gigs at Scillies (from the picture left) produced as gifts, souvenirs etc. Approximately A4, they will cost £29.00 each. See an example of Salcome gigs in the shop. Tel: 01929 425703

Boathouse Success!

The Boathouse project is the final stages of completion prior to the build  commencing in June. The tenders have been reviewed and the successful proposal agreed subject to final adjustments and checks. A huge thank you to everyone who has made such a professional job of the fundraising.

SSRC is holding a table top sale on the morning of the 29th May in the Community Room of the Mowlem - for more information or to beek a table contacts Janice Thomson on 01929 426773.

Great regatta at Weymouth on the 6th April - some of the clubs that couldn't get to the Dartmouth meeting made it to Weymouth at short notice. SSRC put up Ladies A and B crews, the men a scratch A and a new B crew, and we put in a 'Mens' vets with two ladies and Derek from Torridge! Despite the lack of training over this cold and easterly winter the Ladies crews won both their races, the Mens A came fourth and the B just lost out to Bristol but putting Weymouth into third. The Vets crew did a great row against determined competition coming in 6th out of 7 gigs. What's the more the sun shone and some of us even got sunburnt!
