One In, One Out...
01/02/2010A new Cornish Pilot Gig arrived in Swanage this weekend on the same day that the Club’s Celtic longboat Tilly Whim departed.
The new boat, a fibreglass version built by Trevor Deakin who also built Dancing Ledge, is the result of a joint initiative between SSRC and the Pirates of Poole – a group of individuals intent on “recognising and preserving in living memory the important maritime history of the town of Poole” and at the same time raising money for charity and having a good time along the way.

In May, the pirates will be undertaking a massive charity row from Lands End to
The gig will be named ‘ARRYPAYE after Harry Paye, one of Poole’s more notorious seafarers and until the charity row it will be based in

With the arrival of the new gig, the trustees have decided to accept an offer from Aberporth Rowing Club in West Wales for the sale of the Celtic Longboat and so on Saturday afternoon Tilly Whim made its journey back to its native Wales. Judging by their website www.aberporthrowingclub.co.uk Aberporth were anticipating a new Longboat and it looks like they got one sooner than they had planned! Keep checking back to their website to see news of Tilly Whim in its new home
