Topic: Pirates reach Journey's End

After an impromptu appearance in SSRC#8216s regatta on Saturday, the Pirates of Poole finally made it home on Sunday, just over two weeks after they set out from Penzance Read all the details on the pirates#8216 blog: http://www piratesofpoole com/blog_for_the_pirates html For these guys, this has been a tremendous achievement - in excess of 200 miles in a gig through the hottest days of the year so far, and a shed load of money raised for various charities That#8216s roughly like doing a Great River Race every day for a fortnight - but on the sea, not the calm of the Thames Well done to the Pirates themselves as well as all their support crews and the various SSRC members led by George who over the months trained the pirates, coached them, helped them and accompanied them on that final triumphant leg into Poole

Arrypaye and its crew of Pirates left Exmouth on Sunday morning and soon after lunchtime arrived at its first stop in Dorset, Lyme Regis where the local gig club received them witha warm welcome Lyme also made sure that both its boats Rebel and Black Ven were on hand to escort Arrypaye out of Lyme Bay on Monday on its longest single leg so far, an 8-hour, 30-mile stretch to Portland With the excessive temperatures of late, the Pirates have certainly not had it easy, and they#8216ll be looking forward to today#8216s Tuesday#8216s more leisurely row from Portland to Weymouth Arrypaye is still on schedule for an appearance at our regatta on Saturday
